Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will
- provide an introduction to basic questions of literary studies, such as text analysis, interpretation and literary theory,
- make students familiar with the terminology and praxis of literary criticism,
- give a survey of the major literary genres and the special problems relating to them.

Assessment and permitted materials

UPDATE due to changes in connection with Covid-19: Written online final test (120 minutes); date: early June (tbc; date will be communicated via Moodle and email)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course aims at providing students with a critical toolkit enabling them to understand - and apply - the basic concepts of literary criticism and to approach and analyse literary texts autonomously.

1 - Sehr Gut 36 - 40 points
2 - Gut 31 - 35.5 points
3 - Befriedigend 26 - 30.5 points
4 - Genügend 21 - 25.5 points
5 - Nicht Genügend 0 - 20.5 points
