Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This seminar will deal with six selected Restoration comedies.
Assessment and permitted materials
Class participation, oral presentation, essay (22-25 pages), and final written test.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The students become acquainted with form, content, and style of Restoration comedies and their social and political context, with major dramatic conventions, problems of interpretation and new approaches to criticism (e.g. New Historicism, Feminist Studies).
Examination topics
Oral presentations in class followed by discussions. A list of four early topics will be available from 15 July onwards.
