Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

"Teachers tend to teach the way they were taught unless they make a conscious effort to do otherwise". (Johnson, Louann.2015.Teaching Outside the Box. p.139)

Teaching in the Austrian middle school (MS) might ask for a wide(r) repertoire of methods and strategies used in the heterogenous classroom; in this course we are analyzing our comfort zones in ELT in order to take some steps further by getting to know and trying out new ideas, methods and materials for all 4 skills in order to meet the learners’ needs, enhance their learning process and motivation.

The participants will acquire an insight into teaching in- and outside the box in different areas that are adaptable to a variety of learners and teaching situations. The course is interactive, enabling the participants to experience methods and activities introduced, teach and discuss lessons and materials designed.

Objectives:
• Defining teaching In- and Outside the Box & discovering one’s individual comfort zone
• Analyzing the learners’ box by defining the learning needs and objectives of learning in the ELT classroom
