Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture will give a comprehensive introduction into the contemporary South African Novel after the fall of Apartheid by concentrating on the relation of trauma, memory and narrative.

Assessment and permitted materials

Final written test.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students become aquainted with a fascinating and quickly expanding field in the so-called New English Literatures and the postcolonial novel. They understand why ¿trauma' has become one of the most important concepts with which theorists try to make sense of our postmodern world.
