Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this survey of three centuries of English literary history, we will investigate how drama, narrative fiction and poetry responded to the numerous radical changes in science, philosophy, politics, economy and social history that have occurred since the end of the seventeenth century. Assessment will be on the basis of a final written exam.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will be provided with a contextualising framework which will enable them to read texts as complex responses to their respective cultural, social, historical, political, scientific, philosophical and economic environment. Students are advised to take this lecture course after having successfully completed the introductory course on the study of literatures in English.

Examination topics

Lecture, home study, written exam.
