Aims, contents and method of the course

Content & Aim: This is an interactive seminar-type course for students embarking on, or already working on their Diplomarbeit or Dissertation. The seminar will give participants the opportunity to discuss not only the progress of their own work but also issues arising from it of a more general theoretical or practical interest.

Assessment and permitted materials

In order to get credit for this course, students will present their own ongoing research to each other and take an oral exam on a selection of texts concerning the ideas and principles of theoretical and empirical enquiry.

Examination topics

Participants will collaborate in the close and critical examination of ideas about language and language study. Giving and receiving feedback and support for thesis work is an important aspect of this course.

Reading list

A reading list will be provided in one of the first sessions, and participants will be able to suggest their own readings too.
