Aims, contents and method of the course

The course provides a theoretical and practical toolkit for students embarking on the writing of an M.A.-thesis in literary and cultural studies. The emphasis is not so much on the what but on the how of a research project, that is on the whole process of planning, organising, and carrying it out. Topics covered include, among others, the stages of the research process, research methodologies and critical approaches, information research and the use of databases, formal aspects of a research paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course prepares graduate students for the undertaking of an extensive research project such as the writing of an M.A. thesis.

Reading list

Reader will be provided at the beginning of the term. Please make sure you also get the Bedford edition of Wuthering Heights! It has been ordered at Facultas and will be available there with a 10% discount in March.
