Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this historical survey, we will examine some of the most important literary trends and developments to have occurred during the past 350 years of English literature. In our analysis of seminal works of Eng. lit. we will focus on the historically typical and the aesthetically innovative. Our study of non-fictional documents and important works from music and the visual arts will help us understand the social and ideological framework against which the literary works will be read. Audio- and video-excerpts will be used to give credit to the richness of British literary history. Assessment will be on the basis of a final written exam. Students are also recommended to visit the weekly tutorial.
