Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course deals with the lexicon as a main resource within the human language faculty. The questions pursued are among others: What characterizes the lexicon as a linguistic resource? What are the psychobiological dimensions of the lexicon? What do past and present theories of the lexicon say? What types of descriptions has linguistics produced? What tools are there to analyse lexical aspects of language?
An initial input phase will discuss general and theoretical questions as well as research strategies, preparing the participants for their own projects. These projects will normally involve analysing the lexical phenomena in the spoken and written production of different users of English (native and non-native, learners and expert users).
