Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This introductory seminar course aims at examining how literary movements and writers in the second half of the 20th century (and beyond) on the one hand continue the traditions of the American literary canon, and on the other establish new directions. Thus, we will try to place contemporary U.S (and possibly Canadian) literary texts both in historical and contemporary social and cultural contexts. General topics will include the transition from modern to postmodern, questions of race, gender, and ethnicity, cultural re/inscriptions, and multi-/transculturality.
