Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course my approach to literature is experiential in orientation. In other words, learners are invited to become personally involved in literature to discover for themselves the learning potential of this type of discourse. Attention is drawn to both practical and theoretical aspects of literature teaching in EFL. Also, special emphasis is placed on ways of integrating literature, language and culture-related learning objectives.
Issues to be covered in this course:
" Reader response theories as a basis for literature teaching,
" literature and language education,
" teaching short stories,
" teaching young adult fiction,
" working with poems and songs,
" literature teaching and gender studies,
" intensive and extensive reading as objectives for literature teaching,
" teaching the classics,
" literature teaching in the age of 'Bildungsstandards'.
