Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this class we will discuss several interesting short stories which present women from various different angles and in diverse contexts, ranging from the late 19th century to the present. The texts will also be selected with a view of the suitability of (some) of these short stories in the classroom.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral presentation; written copy of the presentation to be handed in; class participation; end test.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will become acquainted with some well-known English and American short stories and with various methods of interpreting and contextualising them.
Examination topics
Interactive; critical readings of literary texts; oral presentations with subsequent discussion in class. Please make sure that any mail sent to your University-email address is forwarded to the email address you regularly check, so that we can contact you about course preliminaries and topics as soon as registration is over.
Reading list
reader will be provided. Texts discussed will include short stories by Margaret Atwood, Elizabeth Bowen, A.S. Byatt, Angela Carter, Doris Lessing, Ian McEwan, Charlotte Perkins-Gilman, et. al.
