Aims, contents and method of the course

This class will look at recent examples of Black and Asian writing in Britain and at contemporary theoretical debates on Black British literatures and cultures. A wide range of theoretical texts from areas such as cultural theory, history or sociopolitics will provide the basis for a detailed analysis of individual texts with a view to establishing a link between the theory and the actual texts.

Assessment and permitted materials

Reading list

A theory reader will be provided at the beginning of term. We will decide together which primary texts we will be looking at in the first class.
