Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This class will look at recent examples of Black and Asian writing in Britain and at contemporary theoretical debates on Black British literatures and cultures. A wide range of theoretical texts from areas such as cultural theory, history or sociopolitics will provide the basis for a detailed analysis of individual texts with a view to establishing a link between the theory and the actual texts.
Assessment and permitted materials
presentations, participation, research tasks, final academic paper
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This class aims at providing students with the competences and skills, as well as the necessary socio-historical background, to analyse Black and Asian British literature from a variety of perspectives, and to turn their thoughts and arguments into coherent academic papers.
Examination topics
discussion-based class, group work, presentations
Reading list
A theory reader will be provided at the beginning of term. We will decide together which primary texts we will be looking at in the first class.
