Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is intended to involve participants in exploring the primary sources of Cultural Studies. Reading will centre on texts from the constitutive stages of British Cultural Studies (Raymond Williams, Stuart Hall and early critical writing from the CCCS), but will include other influential writings and more recent contributions as well. This class is open for everyone; especially those attending 401 Introduction to Cultural Studies (texts from the compulsory reader will be covered).
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation and performance in class
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The purpose of the course is to acquaint students with the primary sources of cultural studies, but also to get participants to consider how they read and interpret texts, and, especially, how they deal with 'difficult' theoretical texts.
Examination topics
Participants will read and discuss texts. In the course of the term, students will be confronted with different modes of understanding, and will be equipped with various techniques of reading.
Reading list
To be announced shortly (texts will be made available via the e-learning platform fronter).
