Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is intended to involve participants in exploring influential texts of cultural studies, and in understanding and applying their concepts. Reading will cover texts from the constitutive stages of British Cultural Studies as well as more recent contributions: Raymond Williams, Stuart Hall, John Storey, Larry Grossberg et al.This class is open for everyone, especially those attending 401 Introduction to Cultural Studies (texts from the compulsory reader will be covered).
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation and performance in class.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The purpose of the course is to acquaint students with the influential texts and concepts of cultural studies; to reflect on the theories and practices of cultural studies; to get participants to consider how they read and interpret academic texts in general.
Examination topics
Participants will read, present and discuss texts, with an emphasis on "doing cultural studies".
