Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Starting with an overview of the use of technology in language teaching and learning, this module examines key characteristics and the potential of technological aids and explores their pedagogical implications incl. on the role of the teacher. It discusses how the use of technological aids relates to theories of learning and research into language teaching and learning.
Whilst the emphasis is on new, digital technologies incl. digital video and audio, VLEs, CMC, social networking applications, e-learning and mobile devices (incl. tasks for their exploitation), some consideration will also be given to more traditional Computer Assisted Language Learning software (in particular text manipulation, authoring software, voice recognition software or concordancers).
In this module, conceptual and theoretical issues are examined but there is also an emphasis on practical use and the development of participants' requisite pedagogical skills.

- (produce and) critically evaluate an application/tool/resource against
a list of relevant criteria developed from the background literature.
