* Three learning diary entries (200-400 words each), two library "visits" incl. uploads and Zoom meeting, individual and group online activities for each session in Moodle/Zoom (written and/or oral).
* The "tour" of the English and American Studies Library will probably take place virtually; there may be some optional guided tours on site for those who are interested instead of working through the virtual resources, but places on these cannot be guaranteed (May/June).
* Your "visit" to another library could take place virtually, although a physical visit should also be possible (May/June).

There is an assignment to complete before class (due Sunday 5th March, 23.55). It requires reading a short text and choosing three quotations which you find particularly interesting. See 1.2a + 1.2b in Session 1 for more details.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Students know fundamental concepts and strategies of academic work, with a special focus on literature and information research. They are familiar with the many information resources relating to English and American Studies and are able to make informed choices as to which to use when addressing academic problems. They know about the requirements of academic best practice. They are able to understand the relevance of information literacy for their future professional practices.
Contents: Concepts and strategies of academic work, with a special focus on literature and information research; information sources for English and American Studies; academic best practice; information literacy in academic and school environments
Methods: Online synchronous learning: teacher input, some inverted lecture sessions, individual and group online activities in Moodle/Zoom.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Online attendance (max. 1 absence) - pre-defined group and individual online activities for each session (Moodle/Zoom) count as attendance.
1) Three learning diary entries relating to sessions 1-3, 4-5 and 6-7 (7%, 10%, 13%, i.e. 30% in all). All three uploads are required even if you missed one of the sessions.
2) "Tour" of the English and American Studies Library (15%)
3) "Visit" to and report on another library plus library group event (up to 15%)
Individual online homework activities (up to 40%, around 100 points) must be done in addition to the three named parts. The three named parts must be positive as well as the overall score.

Grading scale:
1 (sehr gut) 100-90%;
2 (gut) 89-80%;
3 (befriedigend) 79-70%;
4 (genügend) 69-60%;
5 (nicht genügend) 59-0%.

Continuous assessment based on what was covered in class (see Ziele, Inhalte und Methode/course schedule/Mindestanforderungen). Details on assignments are given in Moodle.
