The course will be held in a MIXED format. Sessions 1-6 (08.10-12.11) will be held online, via BigBlueButton, during the regular class hours. Alternating on-site and online attendance (half the class for each mode) is planned for the remaining sessions. Students who do not attend the first session without notifying the lecturer will be deregistered. The pronunciation component of this course will have an American English focus.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content:

Building on the skills and knowledge acquired in PPOCS 1, this course focuses on interactive speaking skills and formal presentations. It discusses characteristic features of spoken language and provides ample opportunity for practice. Students will continue to work on their pronunciation and will learn to make effective use of intonation, voice, turn-taking devices, and lexico-grammatical means to interact successfully in conversations and formal discussions. Depending on the lecturer the course will have a mainly American or British English focus and students are advised to choose according to their own preferences.

Aims:

- to speak fluently and effectively in various forms of interaction and production
- to have expert knowledge of the characteristics of spoken language
- to have practical analytical skills, e.g. for monitoring own speech and for error analysis in the speech of others

Methods:

Communicative language practice based on the discussion of theoretical concepts, presentations, role plays.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment is based on peer feedback tasks, written and oral assignments, and a final oral exam.

2. Final exam: presentation (40%)
3. Final exam: interaction (40%)

1 (Sehr gut) 100-90%;
2 (Gut) 89-80%;
