Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
There will be a number of quizzes and problem solving assignments (in-class and take-home) and one longer written assignment (term paper).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
By the end of this class you should:-know how to formulate phonological rules-know about important phonological processes, e.g., assimilation, lenition, voicing changes, and syllable structure alternations-be able to apply this knowledge to datasets from a number of different languages-be able to detect and discuss advantages and shortcomings of different phonological analyses-have some knowledge of (at least two) different theoretical approaches to phonology

Class discussions, solving in-class problem sets.

We will focus on practical problem solving in phonological analysis. This means that we will discuss and work on datasets from a range of different languages.
