Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This is an interactive proseminar with the aim of introducing research methods used in psycholinguistic research on language learning. The proseminar is suited for students interested into research of individual differences in second or multiple language acquisition. The proseminar will concentrate on providing practical insights into testing second language learners, study design, statistical analysis and presentation of quantitative data.

Assessment and permitted materials

own field work (investigation), discussion in class, active class participation and presence, presentations of group work (group=2 students), proseminar paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This course aims at introducing the participants to the field of SLA-research with special focus on psycholinguistic aspects, providing practical background information and insights into the nature of research, statistics with SPSS, on language learning as well as familiarizing with recent and ongoing research in the field and the tools used. The course should be highly interactive and practical with students elaborating own field work (testing) and analyzing, reporting/discussing their findings in class.
