Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course explores English grammar from different perspectives: descriptive, prescriptive, variationist, and pedagogical. We reflect on the nature of grammatical phenomena and how these are analysed, acquired and taught. Students will then choose a grammatical phenomenon to investigate empirically. Students will become familiar with methods of acceptability judgement, truth value judgement tasks and the use of corpora. Students will be familiarised with the mechanics of academic writing. The research will form the basis of in-class presentation and proseminar paper.
