# Functional Discourse Grammar
# Systemic Functional Grammar
# Cognitive/Construction Grammar
Although these approaches differ in terms of their main concerns, and the basic concepts and analytical tools employed, they crucially share the following important assumptions:
• Language is a device (code) used to express meaning
• Linguistic form and structure are motivated by communicative function
• A full account of linguistic communication needs to take into consideration (cultural) context.
The course will end with a discussion of the implications of such an approach to linguistic analysis for the study of language acquisition.
