Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

For centuries, writers have been dreaming about better worlds - and putting their dreams on paper. In this course, we will take a look at a selected number of utopian texts from the 17th to the 20th centuries, and investigate their structural features as well as the socio-economic circumstances that gave rise to them.

Assessment and permitted materials

active participation in class; research assignments; presentation; end-term paper

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students will become acquainted with a range of Utopian texts as well as with scholarly articles dealing with relevant subjects. They will learn to implement different methodological approaches and to independently find relevant literature in libraries and online databases. In the end-term paper, they will have an opportunity to practise their academic writing skills along with demonstrating their insight into the topic of the seminar.
