Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
From Ben Jonson to Oscar Wilde, from The Country Wife to Monty Python’s Flying Circus, this course takes a selection of texts from the vast history and range of the comedy genre to investigate comedy’s patterns, characteristics and mechanisms. Focusing on seminal texts from the English comedy canon, we will explore how laughter and the comic affect the reader and the issues on display.
