Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this class is to explore young adult fiction that has school as its central concern. We will explore the structure of the classic school story and analyse some more recent manifestations, from illustrated series fiction to more speculative settings.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students will be expected to submit a portfolio at the end of the course, which consists of short formal essays and more informal and creative reflections, as well as suggestions for classroom activities.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is obligatory. One absence will be excused (this class consisting of double-sessions).
Assessment is based on the following:
• active participation in class (10 pts)
• portfolio (40 pts)

Max. 50 pts; Pass rate: 60%
Grading scale:
100-90 Sehr Gut
91-80 Gut
81-70 Befriedigend
71-60 Genügend
59-0 Nicht Genügend

Examination topics

Materials used as a basis for the portfolios will be provided in class, on moodle and supplied by students.

Reading list

A variety of texts will be provided on moodle, longer texts will have to be purchased.The readings will be selected by students and teacher.
