Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This class will focus on the ways that food and drink are instrumental in the construction of identities in literature. Rather than mere props and background, what characters prepare, eat and digest allows conclusions as to the characters' sense of themselves, their identities, ethnic, national and other. The culinary wealth that literature in the English language provides gives us a chance to try out a number of theories and methodologies and will hopefully offer much food for thought.
