Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar we will explore a corpus of dramatic texts of the Edwardian era. There will be a particular focus on social problems of this transitional period as reflected in these plays. Formally, the playwrights are gradually moving away from the well-made play and introduce innovative dramatic strategies as well as new subject matter or take a fresh perspective on traditional themes and motifs. Likewise, the theatrical landscape is changing, the commercial theatre is challenged by alternative forms of theatre management.
