The course will be taught in a blended learning mode, including a mix of online and on-site sessions.

On-site sessions will take place on the following dates:

In order to comply with COVID-distancing regulations, only half of the group per on-site session is permitted. Students will be informed by the lecturer on which of the above dates they should attend.
Should the situation require it, the course will have to be switched to a purely online mode.

HYBRID with Collaborate, i.e. a mixture of on-site and online sessions in class time is planned. There is space for 20 students in SR5. Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims at providing students with the background knowledge and basic skills required to critically analyse existing language teaching materials, as well as to modify and develop their own activities in accordance with competence-oriented criteria and target group needs. The focus will be on the following areas:
Grammar
Vocabulary
English for Specific Purposes (ESP)
Extensive reading
New media
Throughout the course, we will discuss relevant background reading, explore various (schoolbook) materials and activities, and integrate pertinent national and European documents (e.g. national curricula, the CEFR, the ELP), relating them to specific English language teaching contexts.
Please note that due to COVID-19 regulations, the course will largely be taught online using digital interactive formats like virtual BBB sessions, discussion forums, online quizzes, etc. For details and dates for face-to-face sessions, please see individual courses.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment is mainly based on continuous assessment (online classwork/homework) and the final portfolio.
