Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This class is intended to analyse recent young adult literature from the UK and the US in a way that is both research-based and relevant for the English language classroom at upper secondary level. Students will design research questions, engage in theoretical debates around the label "YA", discuss selection processes and experience various approaches towards anglophone YANs. Students will produce a BookTube review, engage in group activities, discussion and peer feedback and will be expected to write an individual academic paper, to be submitted at the end of term (term paper or bachelor's paper). The progress of this paper will be supported throughout this class.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will have to read four recent young adult novels (selected by the group from a preselection) and a number of articles and book chapters. They have to plan and write a term paper or bachelor paper, and shorter tasks to prepare the paper. They will be expected to record a BookTube review, participate in discussions, provide and accept peer feedback and engage in other classroom activities.
