Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this module students will examine the development of film history and theory, considering some of the major developments in cinema since the emergnce of film in the late 19th century. Topics considered will include Classical Hollywood film, Genre, Documentary, Italian neorealism, French nouvelle vague, Third cinema, New Hollywood, Dogme and New Iranian Cinema.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance, active participation in class, PowerPoint presentation, final test (written).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to film history and some major methodological approaches to the cinema.
Examination topics
Team presentations, class discussion; classroom discourse will be supplemented by visual aids.
