Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course aims at learning methods and theories to analyze music--in our case, Anglophone American HipHop--in a cultural studies context (e.g. performance, jouissance, hiphop as a way of life) and to familiarize students with the history and significance of rap and HipHop in American culture and beyond.

Methods: lecture parts, discussions, pair work, group work

Assessment and permitted materials

participation, oral presentation and regular contributions, written works (3 summaries, 1 essay)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

ACTIVE and regular participation (you may miss max. 2 sessions) (25%)
group presentation (25%)
3 written summaries (25%)
written version of your project incl. critique & discussion (25%)
