Aims, contents and method of the course

This CMA class critically engages with depictions of violence in films and TV series and analyzes the meanings fictionalized violence and violent behavior carry in these narratives.
On the screen “acts of violence, broadly conceived, are productive of particular modes of being in the world, prescribing certain behaviors and proscribing in others.”(Sheperd, 2013).

Assessment and permitted materials

In addition to materials/texts discussed in class, students have to read a selection of secondary texts. They will be asked to hold short presentations in class, hand in written assignments as well as take a final written text. All the articles and excerpts from books will be provided online via MOODLE.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to pass this course you have to pass the final written text and hand-in the required written assignments.
Grading is further based on class attendance and active participation in class.
