Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This course serves as workshop to on the one hand develop and enhance a critical understanding of the notions media spectacles, critical media literacy and cultural studies and on the other hand to practice doing cultural and media studies especially for future classroom usage.
Examination topics
Students will approach the topic from various theoretical perspectives. Next to class readings, in-class tasks and discussions, students will plan, carry out and reflect on a mini-research project.
A class blog will be set up where students will post class related ideas and findings on a regular basis. -> Regular Internet access is obligatory.

We will address questions of representation, identity, consumption, production and regulation and we will further discuss the cultural, social, political, ideological and ethical impact of media spectacles.
