Aims, contents and method of the course

In 2009, the Embassy of Ireland and the University of Vienna devised a partnership programme with a view to fostering and strengthening the study of Ireland, its languages, history, politics, society, literature, media, culture(s) etc. Under this scheme a team of renowned international experts in the field of Irish Cultural Studies have been invited to come to Vienna and present a variety of topics and issues relating to the ‘matter of Ireland.’ Accordingly, this series of lectures will be dedicated to a heterogeneous number of case studies and their respective methodologies:

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is the aim of this lecture course to provide an introduction to, and survey of, the various tools and methodologies of Irish Cultural Studies. This series of guest lectures will be prefaced by lectures supplying (or recapitulating, as the case may be) basic background information for the study of Irish literature and culture in general (what used to be known as 'Landeskunde').
