Core content: applying theoretical concepts in practice; subject-specific observation techniques; planning EFL language teaching activities and lessons (including the design of home assignment tasks and the application of basic differentiation techniques); professional reflection procedures (individual and collaborative)
Methods: e-learning via Moodle; interactive class with student participation in small-group and all-class discussions of topics related to participants' observation and teaching experiences. The main instrument for observation, reflection and discussion is the EPOSTL - European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages - please make sure you have access to the document in all sessions!MATERIALS EVALUATION AND DEVELOPMENT
The Materials Evaluation and Development component aims at providing students with the background knowledge and basic skills required to critically analyse existing language teaching materials as well as to modify and develop their own activities in accordance with competence-oriented criteria and target group needs.
Core content: grammar, vocabulary, extensive reading, long-term planning
Throughout the course, we will discuss relevant background reading, explore various (schoolbook) materials and activities, and integrate pertinent national and European documents (e.g. national curricula, the CEFR, the ELP), relating them to specific English language teaching contexts.
Methods: a mixture of methods will be employed, including individual and group activities in and outside of class time, discussions in class, short presentations by the lecturer.
