Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course provides students with the necessary knowledge for implementing the European Language Portfolio in a learner-centred classroom. After an introduction to the Common European Framework of Reference and its action-oriented approach (basis for Austrian curricula for modern languages, educational standards E8 and E13 and final exams), the ELP concept and its implications for learners and teachers will be presented and examined.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation in class discussions based upon background reading assignments, short presentations; keeping a European Language Portfolio; course paper
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aims of this course are for students to get to know and critically reflect upon selected chapters of the CEFR with respect to its impact on secondary education in Austria, to familiarize themselves with the learner-centred approach of the ELP, in particular with its focus on autonomous learning and the development of individual plurilingualism in theory and practice and to reflect upon their own experience as language learners by working with an ELP.
Examination topics
Reading and discussing background literature (e.g. CEFR); reflection upon individual language learning experiences by keeping an ELP; e-learning component (moodle).
Reading list
Participation in class discussions based upon background reading assignments, short presentations; keeping a European Language Portfolio; course paper
