Aims, contents and method of the course

The course provides teacher students with an introduction to the following ESP related topics:
ESP in various settings;
role of the ESP teacher;
teaching the four skills and the language systems in ESP settings;
a genre-informed approach to teaching ESP;
authorised and other types of material resources;
levels of needs analysis for ESP settings;
curricula analysis & course design;
observation and micro teaching in ESP settings;
Methods: group interaction, discussions, lecturer input, student presentations, observations, teaching practice

Assessment and permitted materials

1) Assignments: various (reading) assignments, participation in on-line discussions, class activities: 10%
2) presentation of project and hand in of project 50%
3) observation report, lesson plan and reflection on teaching experience:20%
4) Essay: Application of theory in practice ( 1000 words) 20%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Requirements ("zwingend vorgeschriebene Leistungen"): You are expected to 1. hand in the set assignments; 2. present and hand in your project; 3. observe and teach in an ESP setting; 4. hand in the documentation of your observation and teaching experience (observation report, lesson plan, critical reflection)
5. Hand in your practice essay (e.g. relating a theoretical concept in ESP to an example of an ESP resource)
