Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

CLIL models, national and international CLIL policies, CLIL in the Austrian school system (legal and organizational issues), analysing curricula, classroom observation; making lesson plans based on textbooks, web-based materials, films, exhibitions, excursions etc.
Examples will mainly focus on social science subjects but students will be encouraged to transfer knowledge to natural science and other subjects.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in class discussions based on background reading assignments, evaluation of peer teaching and presentation of lesson observation, course portfolio.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the course is for students to identify the links between their expertises as subject teacher and language teacher, to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to plan CLIL teaching sequences and to develop criteria for successful CLIL teaching.
The course also aims at providing participants with a conceptual framework that enables them to take a professional approach towards planning and teaching CLIL sequences.

Examination topics

Group work, mini-lectures, discussion, readings, project work, oral presentations, peer teaching. cooperative open learning and e-learning.
