Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Evaluating and designing kinaesthetic and digital learning material for ELT

Digital education is currently a rather ill-defined educational aim that still needs practical experiments and adjustments as well as accompanying research. In this course, we will be taking a pro-active stance and engage in critical analysis and creative design of both kineasthetic (hands-on) and digital learning materials for English language classrooms for a range of domains and skills including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, receptive skills, and literature.

Topics will thus be
• Definitions and contexts of digital education, and digital education within ELT
• Awareness and self-assessment of digital teaching skills
• Development and evaluation of learning material in ELT
• Kinaesthetic and digital learning material in ELT
• Designing a kinaesthetic or digital learning material for ELT

We will have a mixture of readings and discussions, explore kineasthetic and digital learning material for ELT, and finally also plan, design and create a kinaesthetic or digital learning material ourselves, and introduce them to learners in ELT classrooms.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment is based on:
1) class participation 20% (incl. reading assignments and peer feedforward)
2) short assignments 20%
3) presentation 20%
4) designed learning material and material description 40%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

1. read/upload/complete the set assignments
2. participate in discussions and group work, and contribute to feedback sessions for the designed learning materials
