2) Written exam part 1, open book (20%)
3) Written exam part 2, open book (25%)
Course work (25%) must be done in addition to the three named parts; three out of the four parts must be positive.
Grading scale: 1 (sehr gut) 100-90%; 2 (gut) 89-80%; 3 (befriedigend) 79-70%; 4 (genügend) 69-60%; 5 (nicht genügend) 59-0%.

The course aims at developing a reflective and critical understanding of English Language Teaching in students through a consideration of the guiding principles underlying professional ELT.
The key principles of ELT discussed will cover:
* Principle of research-based teaching
* Principle of accountability in teaching
* Principle of inclusion
Within each of these, a selection of thematic areas will be discussed in greater detail, such as:
* The role of theory in teaching practice
* Professionalism in language teaching
* Standardisation, including E8 standard, standardized final exams
* CEFR, ELP, competence models, curricula
* EPOSTL
* Multilingualism in the ELT classroom
* Differentiation
* Inclusion of neurodiverse learners
In addition, the course will encourage in-depth engagement by students with a range of current approaches to EFL teaching. This will include:
* Presenting, trying out and evaluating selected approaches to EFL teaching
* Discussion of the ‘post-method era’
* Critical evaluation of CLT
* Influence of general trends on ELT, such English as a lingua franca, new media in teaching
Methods
A mixture of methods will be employed, including
* both individual and group online activities in and outside of class time
* synchronous discussions in class
* short presentations by the lecturer
* group presentations by students
