Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this Critical Readings course we will look at literary texts dealing with art and explore the ways in which art has inspired the literary imagination. Apart from analysing the concepts of art and the artist as reflected in a variety of genres from different periods of time we will also pay attention to the relationship between literature and art by looking at the interface of verbal and visual modes of representation. Participants will deepen their knowledge of terminology central to the interpretation of literary texts and will apply a range of critical and theoretical approaches to narrative fiction, poetry and drama.
