Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course we are going to read and discuss 20th-Century Anglophone poetry. We will move from a selection of poems reflecting the Late Victorian aesthetic consensus to poems of the Great War, experimental poetry of the Avantgarde movement (Imagism, Vorticism, Dadaism etc.), the High Modernist movement, postmodern, and postcolonial poetry.
We will also discuss some seminal studies reflecting the theoretical background in the field.

Assessment and permitted materials

50 points portfolio: two (1200 w) essays
25 points oral presentation
25 points active participation and/or asynchronous tasks and quizzes

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students have to fulfill all course requirements (each with at least 50%) and to score at least 60 points altogether to pass this course.

1: 100-91p
2: 90-81p
3: 80-71p
4: 70-60p
5: 59-0p

Examination topics

This is an interactive course with continuous assessment ("prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung"). In addition to handing in a written portfolio, participants are expected to read all set texts and actively participate in class (and/or complete asynchronous make-up tasks) throughout the semester.
There will be no written exam.
