Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course accompanies the Introduction to the Study of Language 1 lecture.

There will be a focus on:

- IPA symbols

- broad (phonemic) transcription, including sentence stress

- modification of sounds in connected speech (elision, assimilation, linking)

- narrow transcription (allophones of plosives, /r/, /l/, etc.)

The course helps students to develop their skills in phonetic transcription.
