    Aims, contents and method of the course

    This course accompanies the following lectures:
    Introduction to the Study of Language 1
    Introduction to the Study of Language 2
    Introduction to English Linguistics
    Language in a Social Context

    There will be a focus on:
    - IPA symbols
    - broad (phonemic) transcription, including sentence stress and weak forms
    - modification of sounds in connected speech (elision, assimilation, linking)
    - narrow transcription (allophones of plosives, /r/, /l/, etc.)
