    Aims, contents and method of the course

    This course accompanies the following lectures:
    Introduction to the Study of Language 2
    Language in a Social Context

    There will be a focus on:
    - IPA symbols
    - broad (phonemic) transcription, including sentence stress and weak forms
    - modification of sounds in connected speech (elision, assimilation, linking)
    - narrow transcription (allophones of plosives, /r/, /l/, etc.)

    Assessment and permitted materials

    There is no individual grade for this course.

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    The course primarily helps students develop their skills in phonetic transcription for the LASC or ISL2 exams.
