Aims, contents and method of the course

Coaching processes have long been recognized as an integral and widely established approach for fostering reflection and professional support within various work environments. These processes contribute to personal and professional development, as well as enhance participation—critical elements in today’s dynamic and evolving workplace. This course introduces students to the core principles of coaching and mentoring, equipping them with key concepts and practical tools that can be applied in diverse professional contexts, including teaching, adult education, management, and organizational leadership.

Course Content:
Throughout the course, students will gain familiarity with fundamental coaching concepts, methods, and tools, such as:
• Key principles and attitudes in coaching
• Contracting and defining learning goals
• Communicative methods and tools (e.g., active listening)
• Characteristics of contemporary professional environments
• Group dynamics, setup, and tools for group analysis
• Basic principles of group dynamics
• Structuring feedback processes
• Reflecting on personal communication and behavior patterns in groups

Applicability:
Students will draw upon their professional experiences to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application. Participation in the course requires that students are currently engaged in a professional role (e.g., teaching, tutoring, corporate settings, or volunteer work).

Course Structure:
Rooted in experience-based and process-oriented learning, this course utilizes the seminar group as a resource for students' individual learning journeys. A combination of teacher-led instruction and applied group dynamics will be employed throughout the course. Sessions will include a mix of lecture-style information delivery, interactive group work, small group and whole-class discussions, pair work, visualization techniques, coaching, supervision, feedback, counseling, and case work.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment and Requirements:
• Attendance and active participation in class
• Documenting the application of coaching concepts and methods to their own professional practices in three documented transfer tasks
• Final reflective assignment (1,500-2,000 words)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum Requirements and Evaluation Criteria:
Upon completion of the course, students will:
• Be familiar with essential coaching and mentoring concepts
• Be able to apply and/or adapt coaching methods to guide group learning processes in their professional contexts

Examination topics

Based on the concepts of experienced-based and process-oriented learning, students use the seminar group as a resource for their own learning process.Both methods of teacher-trainer education and applied groups dynamics will be used.Starting workshop and supervision meetings: mix of lecture-style informative and interactive group work sessions, small group and all class discussions, pair work, visualization, coaching, supervision, counselling, case work.
