Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course deals with the use of minority languages ​​on the internet, especially in the context of Finno-Ugric languages spoken in Russia. Topics include questions of linguistic vitality, virtual linguistic landscape, language ideologies, metalinguistic discussions, revitalization initiatives and language activism, Wikipedia in minority languages, and others. Language of the course: English (Ilia Moshnikov), German (Christian Pischlöger)

Assessment and permitted materials

Students actively participate in the discussion and should hand in a course diary at the end of the semester, which, in addition to summarising the central contents of the various units, should also contain their own reflections in order to demonstrate independent engagement with the contents and issues discussed in the course. The course diary should cover 7-10 thematic units of the course and have a minimum length of approximately 10-15 pages (A4, Arial, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing).

At the end of the semester, the course participants give a presentation on a self-selected topic of the course (approx. 15 minutes) and prepare visual aids (PowerPoint presentation / handout), which have to be handed in beforehand (40% of the grade), at the end of the semester there is a written examination (60% of the grade).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement: More than 50% of the maximum achievable number of points in the evaluation of the exercises and the exam.
Attendance: A maximum of three absences is allowed
Rating scale: 90-100% = Very good (1), 75%+ = Good (2), 60%+ = Satisfactory (3), 50%+ = Sufficient (4), < 50% = Not sufficient (5)
