Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, the students will acquire theoretical and practical basics of North Saami. They will practice working with the language and learn to know the basics of its history and its positioning in the North European language diversity.
The course begins with introductory lectures about the history and position of North Saami (March 7, May 9, hybrid). Between 15th and 24th May, Ilona Kivinen (University of Helsinki, Erasmus) will provide contact teaching. The course ends with two meetings for summing up the central contents.

Assessment and permitted materials

No final exam. Active attendance is required (absence from course max. three times, please inform the teacher by e-mail).
During the course, small assignments will be given, and at the end of the course, students will write a short text with reflections on the contents of the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course will be graded as follows: course assignments 50 %, closing discussion 25 %, written report/reflections 25 %. For the note 4, at least 50 % of the maximal points will be needed.
