Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to familiarise students with the children's and young adult literature industry in Europe and provide them with an overview of the most important publishers, journals, research centres and mediating institutions for children's and young adult literature. At the same time, the most important trends and developments in children's and young adult literature, particularly in Central Europe and the Scandinavian region, will be explored.
The course also includes active participation in the conference: ‘The Order and Construction of Places in Contemporary Children's and Young Adult Literature. International Conference’ on 22 and 23 May 2025 at the Department of Finno-Ugrian Studies.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance & active participation or group work, timely submission of reading and research protocols, short presentations, submission of a written conference report (If students are unable to attend the conference for academic, professional or care-related reasons, an appropriate substitute will be arranged instead.)

Attendance is compulsory in the course. Students who are absent from the first course unit without an excuse will be automatically deregistered from the course. In the course of the semester, it is possible for students to be absent twice without an excuse. Further absences must be cleared with the course lecturer, if necessary by providing a doctor's certificate.
Homework must be handed in on time despite absence or submitted by the agreed deadline after consultation with the course lecturer.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The overall grade is made up of the three sub-grades for
1) Active participation in the course
2) Assignments during the semester: presentations / reading & research protocols
3) Conference report

All three sub-grades must be positive in order to achieve a positive overall grade. The weighting of the partial grades is equal.
