Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture begins with a theoretical introduction to the topic: in the first units, the term 'youth literature' is defined in more detail and the history and development of Hungarian youth literature is discussed. The typical themes, motifs and manifestations of youth literature are also discussed (realistic vs. fantastic youth literature, classics of youth literature), and by reading and studying selected texts of Hungarian youth literature, more detailed questions are addressed as well such as: What topics are predominant in contemporary Hungarian youth literature compared to the 20th century? Which genres are particularly strongly represented and what function(s) do they fulfill for their readership? What is the state of youth literature in Hungary?

As part of the lecture, students are expected to read selected texts independently - some of them in Hungarian - which will be discussed together during the lesson. In addition, selected units will be held by guest lecturers from the Children's and Youth Literature Research Group of the University of Szeged, such as Ágnes Hansági and Réka Vojnics-Rogics.
